The Joint Commission has certified Bridgeport Hospital as a Primary Stroke Center. This means Bridgeport Hospital meets national standards for providing safe, high-quality care to stroke patients. During the past year, Bridgeport Hospital has introduced a Stroke Alert process for hospitalized patients as well as those arriving in the Emergency Department. More than 30 alerts have been called and one-fourth of the patients involved have received the clot-busting drug tPA to minimize stroke injuries. Bridgeport Hospital has also expanded community education programs on stroke prevention and care.
