Our Physicians

Physicians on our team include dedicated surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists with extensive expertise in oncology diagnosis and treatment.

Medical Oncologists

In treating cancer patients, medical oncologists use new and standard therapeutic agents (chemotherapy, hormones, and other treatments), alone or in combination with surgery and/or radiation medicine. They participate in research that is a crucial part of finding new agents to treat cancer patients.

Radiation Oncologists

Radiation oncologists use radiation therapy to destroy cancerous cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue.

Bridgeport Hospitalīs brachytherapy (radioactive seed implants at the site of the tumor) for men with prostate cancer involves collaboration between Radiation Medicine and surgeons from the section of Urology. The prostate implant program has been very successful. In fact, ours is the most experienced seed implant team in Fairfield County. Using our MMS computer and planning system, we can image a patientīs prostate at the time of the implant and develop a treatment plan at the time of the procedure.

Brachytherapy is also performed for women with gynecological cancers, with the help of gynecologic oncologists. Our program is at the forefront in using special medications to help lessen radiation side effects.

Surgical Oncologists

Surgeons play a vital role in the care of cancer patients. Surgical biopsy (obtaining a sample of tissue for microscope examination) can provide a definite diagnosis, and the removal of a tumor early in the course of the disease can offer a complete cure. Board-certified surgeons perform many complex inpatient and outpatient procedures, including the latest in laser surgeries, laparoscopic procedures (using miniature tools and small incisions), and reconstructive techniques.

Gynecologic Oncologists

Gynecologic oncologists provide care, from diagnosis through treatment and post-treatment follow-up, for all gynecologic cancers, including those of the endometrium (lining of the uterus), ovaries, cervix, vulva, vagina, and fallopian tubes, and gestational trophoblastic (pregnancy-related) cancers. They perform surgery for removal of cancers, for staging of the cancers (important for prognosis and management), and for cancer- and treatment-related complications. Gynecologic oncologists may also provide chemotherapy as part of the management plan.
