Admission Requirements

Applicants for a doctoral degree must demonstrate the following:
  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university (or the international equivalent).
  • A quality point average of 3.0 or higher with a science GPA of 3.0.
  • Two semesters of biology, at least one semester of chemistry, one semester of microbiology, and one semester of college math. Physics is strongly recommended.
  • Registered Nurse license to practice in the United States at the time of application. A Connecticut Registered Nurse license will be required upon admission.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting (ER does not fulfill this criteria).
  • Current BCLS, ACLS & PALS certification (must be maintained while in the program).
  • GRE Analytical writing score of 4 or better. Composite scores will be reviewed in relation to the overall application.

Application Procedure
Students seeking admission must complete the following procedure. Submit the following directory to:

  1. A completed Bridgeport Hospital Nurse Anesthesia Application
  2. A non-refundable $60 application fee to the Bridgeport Hospital Nurse Anesthesia Program (make checks payable to BHNAP)
  3. A current professional resume
  4. A three-page, double-spaced, typed paper stating your career goals and future contributions to the profession of nurse anesthesia
  5. Official transcripts from all universities/colleges and/or nursing program(s) attended
  6. Three professional performance evaluations including one from your current supervisor and two others from individuals who can assess your clinical expertise in an acute care setting. (Performance evaluation forms included in the application packet must be used.)
  7. Copy of current RN license to practice in the state of Connecticut
  8. Official report of GRE scores
  9. Students from non-English speaking countries are required to submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report. A TOEFL composite score of 550 for the paper test, 213 for the computer-based, or 80 on the Internet-based test (IBT) is strongly recommended for admission. Fairfield’s ETS code is 3390. www.ets.org
Applicants will also need to submit:
  1. A completed Fairfield University graduate application submitted directly to Fairfield University Office of Graduate Admissions
  2. A non-refundable $60 application fee (payable to Fairfield University)
  3. Proof of immunization or titre for measles and rubella in compliance with Connecticut regulations if born after Dec. 31, 1956
  4. The application and fee must be received by the Office of Graduate & Continuing Studies Admission prior to the interview process
The Fairfield University and Bridgeport Hospital Nurse Anesthesia Program does not accept transfer credits.


Applicants Rights and Responsibilities

The applicant has the right to:
  1. Be treated in a respectful manner.
  2. Be communicated with in a truthful and timely manner.
  3. Have his/her application considered with the same degree of consideration as any other applicant.
  4. Be notified when application is incomplete and what materials need to be submitted.


The applicant has the responsibility to:
  1. Inform the program administration of changes in contact information, address, or Email.
  2. Submit the application before the deadline.
  3. Be truthful in the application and all aspects of communication.
  4. Provide program with material necessary to make decision for admission.

Selection Process
The Program accepts up to 14 students per academic year. Therefore, all applicants who meet minimum requirements for admission may not necessarily be selected. The Admissions committee will evaluate each applicant. Selection will be based on the following criteria:
