Patients receive care from an experienced team of emergency physicians, nurses, technicians and other healthcare professionals. Employing the latest techniques and technology, Bridgeport Hospital works closely with the area's ambulance services to ensure the best possible care, beginning even before patients arrive at the hospital. For example, state-of-the-art technology allows ambulance crews to transmit electrocardiograms directly from the field so Emergency Department physicians and cardiologists can interpret them and plan the appropriate treatment.

Looking toward the future, Bridgeport Hospital is already at work to meet the growing emergency medical needs of the communities it serves. The first phase of a multi-year renovation and expansion project was completed in February 2007. It nearly doubles the space for patient care, reconfigures adult and children’s treat and release services so they are easier to access, and adds more patient parking just outside the department’s Mill Hill Avenue entrance. Patients and their families benefit from new drop-off, greeting and triage areas as well as new waiting rooms. The next phases of the project include a new decontamination area and a new Emergency Department-based CT scanner to reduce wait times for diagnostic exams. The $15 million cost of the project is being funded entirely by donations from the community.
