Endocarditis

Infection of the heart valves and the inner lining of the heart, caused by bacteria or fungus.

Symptoms:

  • high fever
  • chest pain
  • shortness of breath
  • cough
  • small hemorrhages on the palms and soles of the feet
  • Sudden collapse, rapid pulse, and pale, cool skin may indicate shock caused by severe heart damage
