Left Ventricular Failure

Type of heart failure in which the left ventricle is unable to pump strongly enough to push oxygenated blood out to the body. Left ventricular failure results in blood backing up into the lungs. Conditions that can lead to left ventricular failure include hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart attacks, arrhythmias, valvular disorders, alcoholism, congenital defects, cardiomyopathy, heart tumors and systemic diseases that affect multiple organs of the body.
