Explanation of Key Procedures

In the past 50 years, tremendous strides have been made in treating, and even curing, heart disease. Not so many years ago, it was amazing to think that surgeons could actually open the chest, stop the heart, and operate to repair damage. Now, it is amazing to think that our physicians, with the support of our nurses, physician assistants, and technicians, can do the same types of procedures, without opening the entire chest, and without stopping the heart!

In The Heart Institute at Bridgeport Hospital, all of the following procedures are used to save or improve the lives of our heart patients.

Catheterization
Bullet Cardiac Catheterization
Bullet Angiography
Bullet Angioplasty
Bullet Stents

Bypass Surgery
Bullet Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
Bullet Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass (OPCAB)
Bullet Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass (MIDCAB)

Electrophysiology Procedures
Bullet Electrophysiology tests
Bullet Fainting disorders (vasovagal syncope)
Bullet Catheter ablation
Bullet Pacemaker
Bullet Implantable cardidoverter defibrillator
