Danbury students hit the runway for Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center

Friday, December 27, 2013

Danbury , CT – High school students from Wooster School in Danbury raised $9,000 for patient care programs at Bridgeport Hospital’s Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center in their first Catwalk for a Cure fashion show, held Nov. 1. The funds will be used to provide breast care services, including mammograms, to women in need.

The show was the idea of two juniors, Alexandra Ambrosio of Brewster and Hallie Fuchs of Fairfield, who wanted to raise awareness of breast cancer in their community. They worked for months to organize the event with a committee of 30 fellow students.

Several local businesses contributed to making the evening a success. Students modeled clothing from Wishlist, Brooks Brothers, Jack Wills, Wave and Splash of Pink of Westport, and J. McLaughlin of Southport.

“The kids really went all out,” said Robin Righter, development coordinator at the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center. “We are so lucky to have committed young women and men working on our behalf.”

Part of Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Health System, the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center has served more than 20,000 women and their families since it was established in 1999. One of only 200 sites accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the center provides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital and Fairfield locations, including medical oncology, surgical and chemotherapy services, plastic surgery, mammography and radiation therapy, and genetic risk assessment as well as opportunities to participate in clinical trials.

The breast care center office at 111 Beach Road in Fairfield also provides comprehensive women’s wellness services, including nutrition counseling, massage and Reiki therapy, wig and prosthesis fitting, counseling, yoga, Pilates, naturopathic medicine and other patient support activities.
