Fall 2012
Outpatient Cancer Rehabilitation Program

Outpatient Cancer Rehabilitation ProgramThe life-saving interventions cancer survivors depend on—the treatments, medications and surgeries— can take a harsh toll on the body.

If you are a cancer survivor, you may be feeling extremely tired or weak. You may be in pain. You may have scar tissue or swelling that is getting in the way of the simplest movements. Simply put, you just can’t move like you used to.

Cancer rehabilitation during and after cancer treatment can enhance your body’s recovery and contribute to a better quality of life.

The first in Connecticut to be fully certified by the Sandie Taubin STAR Cancer Survivorship Training and Rehab Program, Ahlbin Rehabilitation Centers’ expert therapists use specialized training, knowledge and therapies to address your pain, weakness, fatigue, scarring and any other conditions preventing you from enjoying your best possible quality of life.

Cancer rehabilitation therapy includes:

  • Exercises to build strength and flexibility
  • Scar management to increase range of motion
  • Lymphedema (swelling) therapy, prevention and education
  • Techniques to relieve painful joints and tissues due to surgery, scars or radiation
  • Incontinence therapy and treatment of pelvic pain
  • Balance techniques to reduce falls
  • Aquatic therapy
  • Speech, cognitive and swallowing therapy
