Maybe you can strum a guitar like Bridgeport Hospital President and CEO Bill Jennings, strike a drum like the Bunnell High School Drumline or belly dance like a pro. Every day you show the world how much rhythm you may—or may not!— have. But the rhythm that really counts is the rhythm you can’t see: your heartbeat.Do you have rhythm?

Visit to watch local residents, including Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, show off their rhythm (or lack thereof ). And at the same time learn the right way to take your pulse and determine if you may have a silent irregular heartbeat. Some irregular heartbeats—or arrhythmias—are nothing to worry about. But others may be a sign of atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common type of irregular heartbeat. People with AF may or may not have symptoms. Left untreated, AF can lead to blood clots, a weakened heart and heart failure.

If you detect an irregular heartbeat, or if you are concerned about your heart, contact your primary care physician as soon as possible.
