First hip arthroscopy at Surgease

Patrick Kwok, MD, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist from Orthopaedic Specialty Group, PC, performed the first hip arthroscopy at Bridgeport Hospital’s Surgease in January. Hip arthroscopy is an important procedure in treating hip joint disorders.

One diagnosis, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), can cause premature hip arthritis, leading to cartilage and labral damage. Treating FAI could prevent or slow this arthritis and potentially decrease the need for joint replacement, especially in young individuals.
