It is hard to believe that I have been Chief Medical Officer for two years. Thank you to all the members of the medical staff for your help and patience in the past and I ask you to continue to work with me and the hospital administration as we continue the journey.

Pam Scagliarini, vice president for Yale New Haven Health System Supply Chain, is the newly appointed interim senior vice president for Operations at Bridgeport Hospital. Her responsibilities here result from Bridgeport Hospital Chief Operating Officer Norm Roth taking on added interim duties during the leadership transition at Greenwich Hospital.

About 100 Bridgeport Hospital physicians and leaders attended the Sept. 15 Physician Reception at Fairfield University’s Bellarmine Hall. Among them were (l-r) Michael Ivy, MD, chief medical officer; Norm Roth, chief operating officer; Harold Sauer, MD, chairman, Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Jairo (Ed) Castillo, MD, medical director, SurgEase.

Local officials and Bridgeport Hospital staff led by Bill Jennings, president and CEO, took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 120,000-square-foot medical office building at the Bridgeport Hospital outpatient campus, 5520 Park Avenue, Trumbull, on Friday, Sept. 19.

Art for the Heart – Oct. 27 – 31. Part of Ahlbin Rehabilitation Centers’ 75th anniversary celebration, this physician/ employee show will feature a different type of visual art each day (photography, drawing, painting, etc.), in the Fresh Inspirations Café events room.

In mid-October, the Bridgeport Hospital hematology laboratory will begin using the Sysmex hematology analyzer.

The American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) established new criteria for diagnosing malnutrition.

Marna Borgstrom, Yale New Haven Health System president and CEO (seated, second from right), testified in August before the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging about the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services “two-midnight” rule.

Shireen (Dennie) Donaldson-Ramos, MD, Ob/Gyn, was recently selected the 2014 Dr. Melville G. Magida Award winner. The annual award, presented by the Fairfield County Medical Association (FCMA) and the Rosenthal Family Foundation, recognizes a young physician showing notable capacity for patient treatment and care, and special sensitivity to patient-physician relationships.

Medical Staff members are invited to join President and CEO Bill Jennings and a guest from Yale New Haven Health System leadership monthly on Mondays, 7 – 9 am, in the Medical Staff Lounge for breakfast and discussion.

YNHHS updated its Conflict of Interest policy to reflect that YNHHS will not conduct business with physician-owned distributorships.
