Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for Wound Care

When paired with traditional treatments, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can heal certain types of difficult-to-heal wounds.

HBOT is a medical treatment in which patients breathe 100 percent pure oxygen inside a compression chamber. (Fresh air is 21 percent oxygen.) When pure oxygen is inhaled at an increased pressure, it boosts the effects of some antibiotics, activates white blood cells to fight certain infections and promotes the healing process of specific chronic wounds.

The Wound Healing Center of Fairfield County offers the area’s first hospital-based multiplace (multiperson) hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber—accommodating up to 12 people at the same time! This design allows for a trained staff member to be in the chamber during treatments. The attendant assists each patient and helps to decrease feelings of isolation and claustrophobia that some patients experience in chambers designed for a single patient.

When you’re ready to explore treatment for your wound, please call The Wound Healing Center of Fairfield County at 203-384-HEAL (4325). No referral is necessary.
