Easton Resident Robert Folman Honored

Eastonite Robert Folman, MD was honored for his many years of service to The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center on November 13.

Dr. Folman, senior partner and president of Oncology Associates of Bridgeport, led the Breast Care Center in its development of a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to patient care, the first of its kind in Connecticut. “The Breast Care Center helps guide women through the process and that’s what is important to me, the coordination of care,” Dr. Folman says. He opened his practice contiguous to the Breast Care Center so patients could benefit from the full spectrum of breast care services. As the Breast Care Center has expanded, he has remained close so patients can continue to receive a coordinated program of services.

Dr. Folman was chosen by his colleagues to be the first oncologist on the Breast Care Center’s board of directors and helped establish the role of the oncologist on the board. Today he is president of the medical staff of Bridgeport Hospital and chief of the Medical Oncology section. He has been co-medical director of the Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute since it was established five years ago and has applied the Breast Care Center’s multidisciplinary approach to other tumor sites. He has been named one of the area’s Best Doctors by New York Magazine and Connecticut Magazine. Dr. Folman has lived in Easton with his wife and three children since 1980.

Dr. Folman was honored as part of Comedy for a Cause, a benefit for The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center, at the Patterson Club in Fairfield. Over 200 people attended the event, which featured headlining comedian Dave Reilly and lifestyle expert, author and celebrity host Mar Jennings. The evening, which included a wine tasting, raised $16,500 for the Breast Care Center. Stepney Wine & Liguor/Black Rock Wine & Spirits ran the wine tasting and donated a portion of the night’s wine sales to the Breast Care Center.

Part of the Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute at Bridgeport Hospital, the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center has served more than 18,000 women and their families since it was established in 1999.
