Dr. Peter Tortora of Fairfield elected President of the Bridgeport Hospital Medical Staff


Peter Tortora, MD, FACPInternal medicine physician Peter Tortora, MD, FACP, of Fairfield, has been elected President of Bridgeport Hospital’s 600-member Medical Staff.

A member of the hospital’s active Medical Staff for more than 20 years, Dr. Tortora graduated from Fairfield University with a degree in Biology and received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He also received a Master of Public Health degree from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Bridgeport Hospital. Dr. Tortora is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Medical oncologist Robert Folman, MD, of Easton, whom Dr. Tortora succeeded as President, will continue to serve on the Medical Staff Executive Committee as Past President.

Stephen Marshalko, MD, PhD, a cardiologist from Weston, has been elected to the post of Vice President.

Emergency medicine physician Michael Werdmann, MD, of Monroe, has been re-elected Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. Werdmann also serves as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine.

The Medical Staff Executive Committee represents physicians in matters concerning the care of their patients at the hospital.
