Pioneering physicians recognized through new
Honor Your Caregiver Program at Bridgeport Hospital
|Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery M. Clive Robinson, MD, of Fairfield, and cardiac electrophysiologist Murali Chiravuri, MD, PhD, of Bridgeport, are the first physicians to be honored by the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation’s Honor Your Caregiver Program. Both were recognized at a recent meeting of the hospital’s Board of Associates.

In June 2011, the two pioneering doctors were the first in New England to perform hybrid ablation for atrial fibrillation (a-fib), an innovative procedure that combines the best approaches of catheter-based techniques and minimally invasive surgery to treat the most common type of heart rhythm disorder. The result is a more comprehensive treatment than previously possible with either of the separate procedures on their own.
The Honor Your Caregiver Program enables patients and their families to acknowledge excellent service provided by hospital staff by making a donation in their caregiver’s honor. The caregiver can be a physician, nurse, technician or anyone who provided care to the patient in the hospital or one of its outpatient facilities.
“Patients and families express their gratitude to our hospital in a number of ways,” explains Bridgeport Hospital Foundation President Steve Jakab. “Some make donations to support our clinical services, some wish to honor their loved ones and some become hospital volunteers. The Honor Your Caregiver Program is a new option that highlights the important connection between patient and caregiver.”
