Bridgeport Hospital’s Respiratory Therapy Department earns national quality recognition
Bridgeport Hospital’s Respiratory Therapy Department has been recognized by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for its commitment to provide a safe level of patient care consistent with national standards, guidelines and practices.
“Only 15 percent of hospitals in the United States qualify for AARC’s Quality Respiratory Recognition,” says Manager of Respiratory Therapy Services Evelyn Tkacs-Cimmino. “To do so, they need to meet a number of requirements, including competency and credentialing of respiratory therapists, infection control procedures, availability of respiratory therapists 24/7 and oversight of respiratory services by a medical director.”
Bridgeport Hospital’s Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCPs) work closely with other members of the patient care team, providing care to patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer and other lung conditions. They care for patients across all age groups in a variety of settings including our critical care units, the Newborn ICU, Emergency Department, The Connecticut Burn Center and medical/surgical units. They are also key members of lifesaving response teams, such as the hospital’s Rapid Evaluation Team (REV Team).
“We’re proud of our respiratory care professionals at Bridgeport Hospital,” Tkacs-Cimmino says. “Not only are they highly skilled in what they do but they serve patients with in a caring, compassionate way. Recognition by the AARC is well deserved.”
