Students Flock Flamingos for Breast Cancer

Fairfield, CT – Three students from Fairfield Ludlowe High School participated in a Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser to benefit The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center, raising $2,800 during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the Center’s programs for women in need.

Fairfield Ludlowe High School Students Emma Burnstein, Sarah Mason and Jane Shanley organized a Flamingo Flocking to raise funds for The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center.

The girls, Emma Bernstein, Sarah Mason and Jane Shanley, chose two neighbors to start the flocking. Neighbors made a donation to have the flock taken away, and the girls moved in after dark to take the flamingos to their next destination.

The girls learned about the Breast Care Center through their mothers. Jane’s mother is a yoga instructor at the Breast Care Center. Sarah’s mother is a member of the Breast Care Center President’s Council. Emma’s mother supports the Breast Care Center.

“This is the third year the girls have held this fundraiser for us,” says Donna Twist, Executive Director and Vice President for Development of the Breast Care Center. “Their moms have been associated with the Center for many years. It’s great to see their daughters getting involved.”

The fundraiser concluded on Oct. 31 with the girls visiting the Breast Care Center to present the proceeds from the flocking.

“Our teen volunteers are amazing!” says Twist. “These girls came up with the idea themselves and presented us with a heartfelt gift.”
