Tenth annual Bridgeport Hospital Home Run set for May 26; Proceeds benefit heart care at Bridgeport Hospital

The 10th annual Bridgeport Hospital Home Run, presented by BMW of Bridgeport, will take place Sunday, May 26, 9:00 a.m., beginning and ending at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, home of the Bridgeport Bluefish.

Bridgeport Hospital Home Run Runners sprint from the starting line at the 2012 Bridgeport Hospital Home Run.

The event includes a 5K run, walk and wheelchair race, a one-mile walking course and a Children’s Fun Run beginning at 10:00 a.m. inside the ballpark.

Advance registration by May 22 for the 5K is $20 ($10 for students 18 and under). Race day registration for the 5K is $25 ($10 for students 18 and under). Registration for the Children’s Fun Run is $5. Proceeds benefit the Joel E. Smilow Heart Institute at Bridgeport Hospital. Register online at http://bhfevents.kintera.org/BHHR2013 or contact the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation at 203-384-3600.

“The Bridgeport Hospital Home Run has become a premier event of Memorial Day weekend in the city,” says Bridgeport Hospital Foundation President Steve Jakab. “It has grown year by year and attracts a broad cross-section of participants, from elite runners to friends and families who enjoy a nice walk on a spring day. This year, we are grateful to BMW of Bridgeport for joining us as our presenting sponsor.”

Last year, the Bridgeport Hospital Home Run raised more than $25,000 to support cardiac care at the hospital. The proceeds were the highest since the event was launched in 2004.

The scenic Bridgeport Hospital Home Run 5K course runs along the Long Island Sound waterfront through Seaside Park. Trophies will be presented to the overall male and female 5K winners and three deep in several age groups.

“The Bridgeport Hospital Home Run is an important event for both Bridgeport Hospital and the City of Bridgeport,” says Mayor Bill Finch, who has welcomed participants to the event and served as race starter since he took office. “The runners and walkers who come from other communities get a chance to see the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, Seaside Park and other great attractions in our city.”
