Bridgeport Hospital acquires certain outpatient services of Russo Radiology in Bridgeport, Fairfield and Stratford
|In a move that will improve patient access to services and enhance the quality of care, Bridgeport Hospital has acquired certain services of Robert D. Russo, MD and Associates Radiology (Russo Radiology), including X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, bone density and other general radiology services, at 4699 Main Street in Bridgeport, 425 Post Road in Fairfield and 2909 Main Street in Stratford. The acquisition also includes CT scans at the Bridgeport location and an MRI service at 2595 Main Street in Stratford, effective later this summer.|
The newly acquired services will be offered under the name Bridgeport Hospital Outpatient Radiology. The transaction closed in December 2012 pending Certificate of Need approval by the State Office of Health Care Access, which was granted last month.
Bridgeport Hospital did not previously operate off-campus outpatient imaging services, which are increasingly preferred by patients due to the easier access they provide compared with hospital-based imaging services.
Many Russo Radiology technical and administrative employees at the three outpatient centers have become Bridgeport Hospital employees. Some Russo Radiology physicians have retired. Over the next several months, others will join the Yale School of Medicine Department of Diagnostic Radiology (YDR) under the leadership of Interim Chairman Rob Goodman, MD, and will continue to provide professional services at the new Bridgeport Hospital Outpatient Radiology sites.
“By partnering with an experienced and established provider of radiology services and contracting with the Yale School of Medicine for professional services, Bridgeport Hospital will ensure that the level of quality and service set by Russo Radiology will be maintained and enhanced,” says William M. Jennings, Bridgeport Hospital President and CEO, and Executive Vice President, Yale New Haven Health System. “Operating outpatient radiology services allows the hospital to maintain consistent standards of care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.”
Jennings adds that another benefit of the acquisition is the new Bridgeport Hospital Outpatient Radiology sites will implement the state-of-the-art Epic electronic medical record system at the same time it is introduced at the hospital’s main campus in September. By that time, the new Epic system will be in use across the entire Yale New Haven Health System, including all Yale Diagnostic Radiology services, helping to enhance quality and safety and providing convenient access to information for patients and healthcare providers.
Bridgeport Hospital also plans to open a new comprehensive outpatient center at 5520 Park Avenue in Trumbull. Construction is expected to start in 2014. The hospital recently opened its new Radiology Oncology Center at the same site.
