Perioperative Nursing Program Objectives
At the completion of this program, the perioperative nurse will be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency as a scrub and circulating nurse on moderately complex surgical procedures.
- Describe the effect of pathophysiological and psychosocial factors on patients undergoing specific surgical procedures.
- Demonstrate principles of asepsis, sterilization and disinfection when implementing perioperative nursing practice.
- Identify perioperative needs of the patient using the nursing process.
- Perform perioperative care in a manner that will ensure patient safety according to established standards of practice.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing practice and quality of patient care during surgical intervention.
- Identify the ethical, moral and legal responsibilities as an integral member of the surgical team.
- Recognize opportunities for professional growth as a perioperative nurse.
