Pink Party raises more than $2,000 for Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center

New York City-based DJ Nomad entertained more than 500 people on Nov. 5 at Grand restaurant/lounge in Stamford as part of the fourth annual Pink Party, a benefit for The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center. The event raised over $2,000 and was sponsored by Grand and the DeMattia Foundation.

People often associate breast cancer with older women, but the disease is striking a growing number of young women in Fairfield County. The Pink Party is geared to women in their 20s and 30s to educate them about their risk of breast cancer and what they can do to reduce their risk.

DJ Nomad, or Jamie DeMattia, is the son of Connie DeMattia, a member of the Breast Care Center’s Board of Advisors. He has been dee-jaying since the early 1990s, when he developed a following in Connecticut, New York City and Westchester County.

“Jamie helps us connect with young women who often think they’re safe from breast cancer,” says Donna Twist, PhD, the Center’s Vice President for Development and Executive Director. “We are seeing more and more women under 40, and we want them to know we can help them even if they have no insurance.”

The Breast Care Center helps all women regardless of their ability to pay. The money raised at the Pink Party will be used to help women in need obtain screening and treatment services for breast cancer.

“Fairfield County has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the state,” says Twist. “Women of all ages need to know this. With Jamie’s help, we know we’ve reached hundreds more.”

Part of the Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute at Bridgeport Hospital, The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center has served more than 18,000 women and their families since it was established in 1999. A member of the prestigious National Consortium of Breast Care Centers, the Center provides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital and Fairfield locations, including medical oncology, surgical and chemotherapy services, plastic surgery, mammography and radiation therapy, and genetic risk assessment as well as opportunities to participate in clinical trials.

The Breast Care Center office at 111 Beach Road in Fairfield also provides comprehensive women’s wellness services, including nutrition counseling, massage and Reiki therapy, wig and prosthesis fitting, counseling, yoga, Pilates, naturopathic medicine, and other patient support activities. The Center has a satellite office on Park Avenue in Trumbull.
