|Matt Long, author of The Long Run, the inspirational story of his recovery from a near-death auto accident, will speak at Vazzy’s Four Seasons on Monday, Feb. 13 as part of the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center Winter Event for breast cancer survivors, caregivers friends and family.|
Long, a New York City firefighter and marathon runner, returned from the brink of death to run the New York City Marathon three years after he was hit by a 20-ton truck on his morning bicycle ride to work.
“Running saved my life,” Matt says.
His determination and perseverance have turned him into a symbol of hope and recovery for countless others who have suffered a traumatic injury.
Matt’s story was covered in a popular article in the March 2009 edition of Runner’s World magazine. He has since chronicled his life and journey before and after the accident in The Long Run, released in October 2010. Matt has also started the I WILL Foundation, which provides coaching, training and financial support to help people overcome adversity and challenges caused by illness or traumatic injury.
The Rose of Hope Winter Event is held each year in February.The gathering is an opportunity for breast cancer survivors and their caregivers to meet, find support and learn about the recovery process.The event takes place from 6:00–8:30 at Vazzy’s Four Seasons in Stratford.
