The circular fountain is one of many new features to our new “front door.”

Bridgeport Hospital patients and visitors now enter through a new “front door” – the recently completed Grant Street Plaza, a warm, inviting access-way that better integrates the front of the hospital with the surrounding community.
The plaza – which features a new covered walkway, a circular fountain, a pedestrian mall, lighting and landscaping – provides entrance to the hospital and its main parking garage, the Kaulbach Parking Pavilion, from Mill Hill Avenue. The entrance from Central Avenue is closed, transformed into a park-like area of the plaza.
The project, which began in January, concluded with a ribbon-cutting on Sept. 11 that included Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and City Council members, Bridgeport Hospital leadership, staff, patients and visitors.
The project was inspired nearly three years ago by Joseph O’Connell, MD, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, during a conversation with William M. Jennings, hospital president and CEO, and executive vice president, Yale New Haven Health System.
