Edward Pinto, MD, of Westport, was recognized as Physician of the Year during Bridgeport Hospital’s April 20 Physician Leadership Summit at the Fairfield Museum and History Center.


Minimally invasive heart valve replacement comes to Bridgeport Hospital

The first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure in the Joel E. Smilow Heart Institute at Bridgeport Hospital was performed April 19 under the direction of interventional cardiologist Edward Tuohy, MD, together with Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery Umer Darr, MD, and interventional cardiologist Victor Mejia, MD. Their patient was a 78-year-old local woman.

Next-generation philanthropist presents grant to Norma Pfriem Breast Center

Mason Jennings, a senior at Fairfield Ludlowe High School and son of hospital CEO William M. Jennings, presented a check for $500 to Bridgeport Hospital’s Norma Pfriem Breast Center to benefit programs for women in need. Mason applied for and secured a grant through the Young Donor Advised program of the CT Block Party. The Breast Center provides over 1,000 women each year with patient services they would not be able to afford on their own.
