Bridgeport Hospital named a Top 100 cardiac hospital for third straight year
Monday, December 10, 2007
For the third straight year in 2007, Bridgeport Hospital has been named one of America’s 100 Top Hospitals® for cardiovascular care by the prestigious hospital rating organization Thomson Healthcare (formerly Solucient).
Bridgeport Hospital is the only Connecticut hospital to make the 100 Top Hospitals Cardiovascular list in each of the last three years. It is also the only Fairfield County hospital, and one of only two hospitals in Connecticut along with system partner Yale New Haven Hospital, to make this year’s list.
"Making the 100 Top Hospitals Cardiovascular list in each of the last three years is a reflection of our experience and expertise as well as the compassionate care that our staff provides to cardiac patients every day," says Bridgeport Hospital Chief of Cardiovascular Diseases Stuart Zarich, MD.
Hospitals on the 100 Top Hospitals Cardiovascular list achieve the highest scores on a set of national measures used to determine high-quality care in four areas: heart attack, heart failure, angioplasty and bypass surgery. In compiling its annual list, Thomson reviews data from nearly 1,000 hospitals across the country.
"This achievement is even more remarkable for Bridgeport Hospital considering that it is the only Fairfield County hospital to have a full cardiovascular training program and thus competes for this award against larger renowned university hospital programs," Dr. Zarich says.
In addition to sophisticated heart rhythm care, the Heart Institute at Bridgeport Hospital provides angioplasty and stent placement, cardiac surgery including the latest minimally invasive techniques, and cardiac rehabilitation and wellness programs.
Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), part of Yale New Haven Health, is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826, today, YNHH has two New Haven-based campuses, and also includes Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital. YNHH has received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest honor of nursing excellence. YNHH has a combined medical staff of about 4,500 university and community physicians practicing in more than 100 specialties. www.ynhh.org
