Bridgeport Hospital salutes volunteers

Bridgeport Hospital honored more than two dozen volunteers for distinguished service during its recent Volunteer Luncheon at Testo’s Ristorante in Bridgeport.

“You put patients and families first and enrich their lives with your compassion,” hospital President and CEO Bill Jennings told an audience of more than 120 volunteers and hospital staff members. “I am honored to know you.”

Nine volunteer patient escorts shared a special award for distinguished service – Daniel Cronin of Trumbull, Alicia Curtis and Jack Fisher of Bridgeport, Marlene Dorsey of Milford, Odis Fisher, Patricia Ritchie and Virginia Rogers of Stratford, Julius Muller of Fairfield and Donald Treadwell of Wallingford.

Leading the way with the most lifetime service hours were Joe Mezick of Stratford, 14,500; Mary Ann Peterson of Stratford, 13,000; Gina Ryan of Trumbull, 12,500 and Wilma Andrews of Trumbull, 11,000.

Hospital volunteers contributed nearly 25,000 total hours during the past year, led by those in the Emergency Department, Administration, the Auxiliary Gift Shop and Patient Escort.

Bridgeport Hospital, part of Yale New Haven Health, is a non-profit 501-bed acute care hospital with two campuses (plus 42 beds licensed to Yale New Haven Children's Hospital). Its Bridgeport and Milford Campuses serve patients from across the region. The hospital admits more than 23,000 patients and provides nearly 350,000 outpatient treatments annually. The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital is the only burn center in the state and one of only 64 verified burn centers in the United States.
