Neonatology

Our neonatologists work as a team with our perinatologists to give pregnant women and their infants the most advanced care. Yale Medicine neonatologists specialize in the care of critically ill or low birth-weight infants in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Yale New Haven Children's Hospital's Bridgeport Campus provides families and their newborns with access to the resources of the area's highest level NICU. Our pediatrics unit also has full-time, in-house specialists in pediatric cardiology and pulmonology, with pediatric neurologists and gastroenterologists (specialists in the digestive system) also available.

And when NICU graduates go home, our care doesn't end there. Our Developmental Follow-Up Program monitors babies at risk of developmental delay and provides families with referrals to specialists when necessary. A neonatologist who is specially trained in early childhood development assessment leads this program and will communicate regular assessments with your child's pediatrician.
