Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization for the first six months of life. Breast milk contains all the nutrients an infant needs in those first months of life. Breastfeeding exclusively during that time will help them achieve optimal growth, development and health. For however long you choose to nurse, your baby’s immune system benefits greatly from breast milk. We encourage you to sign up for our breastfeeding class or support groups for more info.
If you need to pump while you are in the hospital, Bridgeport Hospital has high-grade electric pumps available, which include a kit and handheld breast pump that you can take home. Lactation Specialists are available to assist you with ordering a personal breast pump for home.
