Serenity stations are back to offer stress relief for staff

Given the stresses employees have faced this year, a few moments of serenity might be a welcome gift.

Serenity stations are services available to all Yale New Haven Hospital employees for stress relief throughout the workday. Serenity stations can be set up in individual units or departments to offer staff relaxing treatments such as chair massage, guided meditation and Reiki. These services provide an opportunity to reduce anxiety, fatigue and discomfort or pain.

“Being a healthcare professional can sometimes bring on a lot of stress,” said Brooke Rymer, RN, who had a Reiki session on her unit at the Saint Raphael Campus. “The Reiki helped me clear my mind and I felt very relaxed.”

Serenity stations feature new safety precautions due to COVID-19. There is a 10- to 15-minute window between each appointment for cleaning and sanitizing; each station will have its own space; and masks are required at all times.

Managers interested in scheduling onsite serenity stations for their staff should complete the request form located under “Resources for You and Your Family” on HRConnect and email it to [email protected]

“We work with managers to figure out the logistics of where we’ll set up the stations and for how long,” said Lindsay Marone, supervisor, YNHHS Employee Well-being Programs. “We’ve always been able to accommodate the units and their needs.”
