Bridgeport Hospital’s Volunteer Program provides a rewarding opportunity for individuals over the age of 15. Volunteers generally contribute a minimum of four hours a week for at least six months. There are a variety of volunteer roles to fit individual time schedules, abilities and interests. Volunteers may work directly with patients or choose to work behind the scenes.
As we continue to manage the return of volunteers to Bridgeport Hospital following our pause due to COVID, we ask for your patience and thank you for your interest.
Please be aware that all volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID as well as masked while in the building.
Behind the Scenes: Volunteers who are placed in a behind the scenes assignment assist staff with clerical duties, deliveries and light computer work.
Customer Service: Volunteers in a customer service position assist patients and visitors in navigating throughout the hospital or providing service to customers in the hospital’s gift shops.
Patient Support: Volunteers placed in a patient support assignment provide assistance to patients and staff in clinic as well as inpatient areas. Assignments may vary between moderate or intense patient support.
Pet Therapy: We are seeking Pet Therapy teams to provide comfort and support to patients and staff. Dogs must be at least one year old and registered with an accredited pet therapy organization. Please contact Lisa Fimbers at 203-301-1062 for more information.
Reiki: We are seeking certified Reiki practitioners to provide a gentle, “hands-on” energy healing touch to patients; promoting relaxation while reducing stress and anxiety.
