Rose of Hope Luncheon raises nearly $524,000 to support breast cancer care for the underserved

Bridgeport Hospital’s Norma Pfriem Breast Center has announced proceeds of nearly $524,000 from its June 11 Rose of Hope Luncheon in Fairfield, the largest amount raised since the annual event was launched in 2000. Nearly 600 people attended the luncheon, which supports the center’s programs and services for underserved women. The event also celebrated the center’s 15th anniversary.


Great weather and turnout mark Bridgeport Hospital Home Run 5K

Bridgeport, CT (June 1, 2015) – Nearly 600 people took part in the 12th annual Bridgeport Hospital Home Run 5K run, walk and children’s fun run May 24. A benefit for the hospital’s Joel E. Smilow Heart Institute, the event raised nearly $27,000.


‘Extraordinary gift’ to fund new hybrid OR for Joel E. Smilow Heart Institute at Bridgeport Hospital

An “extraordinary” gift from an anonymous donor will help the Joel E. Smilow Heart Institute at Bridgeport Hospital build a state-of-the-art hybrid operating suite for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and other minimally invasive cardiac procedures such as hybrid ablation for atrial fibrillation (A-fib).


Swayze’s widow delivers message of hope and healing

More than 100 people attended the April 25 Yale New Haven Health Cancer College at the Trumbull Marriott to learn about the latest advances in cancer prevention and treatment. Lisa Niemi Swayze, widow of actor Patrick Swayze, was the keynote speaker at the conference, which was presented by the Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute at Bridgeport Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer in 2009.


Bariatric surgery returns to Bridgeport Hospital

After a nine-year absence, bariatric surgery is again being offered at Bridgeport Hospital, this time in cooperation with some of the state’s leading weight-loss surgeons from the Yale Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery Program.


Norma Pfriem Breast Center receives $85,000 for Patient Navigation

A grant of $85,000 from William Raveis Foundation will help individuals with a cancer diagnosis access navigation and support services at the Norma Pfreim Breast Center in Fairfield.  Patients will have access to services regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.  


Fairfield surgeon to lead young doctors on East Asia trip

Wooster School Students Hit the Catwalk for Breast Cancer

A high-energy committee of 40 high school students from the Wooster School in Danbury raised over $10,000 for patient care programs at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center in their second Catwalk for a Cure fashion show, held February 6.
