Bridgeport Hospital plans community food distribution June 16

Bridgeport Hospital Food Bank Volunteers

BRIDGEPORT, CT (June 9, 2020) – Bridgeport Hospital will distribute bags of free food to the community on Tuesday, June 16. Staff volunteers will pre-pack bags containing one loaf of fresh bread, one carton of a dozen eggs and one half-gallon of milk. Distribution will begin promptly at 5:30 pm and last until supplies run out but not later than 6:30. Each family will receive one bag.

The distribution will take place in the parking lot at 200 Mill Hill Avenue. All participants are asked to wear a mask and maintain safe six-foot social distancing. In recent weeks, there have been many instances of the community supporting hospital staff with food donations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bridgeport Hospital is returning the favor by supporting the community and distributing much needed free, nutritious food to patients, visitors and neighbors in the Bridgeport Hospital community. Food insecurity is a long standing issue in the Bridgeport area and the need for food has increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Bridgeport Hospital has provided access to a monthly mobile food pantry since May 2019 in partnership with the CT Food Bank.

To date, over 1,730 families have been served by monthly mobile pantry visits to Bridgeport Hospital. Bridgeport Hospital is committed to the community and will continue to provide food to those in need. While the CT Food Bank has had to halt many of its mobile pantry visits throughout Connecticut as it refocuses its limited resources, Bridgeport Hospital will hold the monthly food distributions.

Thanks to a very generous donation of fresh baked bread from Chabaso Bakery in New Haven and a collaboration with Wade’s Dairy in Bridgeport, Bridgeport Hospital will continue to distribute food on the third Tuesday in June.

For more information about future food distributions, contact Gina Smith at 203-200-3719 or [email protected].
