From Connecticut to the World Stage: Bridgeport Hospital Residents Take Top Honors at ACP Nationals

Tuesday, April 28, 2026

Internal medicine team wins Doctor’s Dilemma® and secures place in ACP history

San Francisco, CA (April 28, 2026) - Five residents from the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Bridgeport Hospital brought national recognition to Connecticut this week, capturing first place at the American College of Physicians (ACP) Doctor’s Dilemma® National Competition and earning the prestigious Osler Cup.

Doctor’s Dilemma®, a flagship ACP program, is a fast‑paced, quiz‑style medical knowledge competition often compared to Jeopardy!. It draws the best and brightest internal medicine residents from across the United States and around the world. Up to 60 teams, which each represent an ACP state or international chapter, compete over three days at the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting, with only one team emerging victorious.

To reach the national stage, the Bridgeport Hospital team first triumphed over a highly competitive field of internal medicine residency programs statewide, earning the honor of representing Connecticut. They then went on to defeat elite teams from across the globe at the ACP national meeting, held this year in San Francisco.

“This achievement speaks volumes about the dedication, teamwork and intellectual rigor of our residents,” said Kaltrina Sedaliu, MD, program director, Yale New Haven Health Bridgeport Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. “Winning at the national level requires far more than individual brilliance. It reflects discipline, preparation and mutual trust. We are incredibly proud of how our residents represented Bridgeport Hospital and the state of Connecticut on an international stage.”

The competition tested residents across a broad range of internal medicine topics, requiring rapid clinical reasoning, deep knowledge and composure under pressure.

“Competing at this level alongside some of the brightest minds in medicine was both humbling and energizing,” said Sarpong Boateng, MD, a Bridgeport Hospital internal medicine resident and member of the winning team. “Ultimately, what made the difference wasn’t just knowledge; it was preparation, trust and composure under pressure.”

By securing the Osler Cup, the Bridgeport Hospital team has earned a permanent place in ACP history, which is an achievement that underscores the strength of its educational mission and the exceptional caliber of its residents.

The ACP Doctor’s Dilemma® competition is widely regarded as one of the most rigorous and respected academic challenges in graduate medical education, highlighting excellence in internal medicine training worldwide.
