Bridgeport Hospital holds Men's Health Symposium to highlight cancer awareness and prevention

Friday, October 24, 2025

Bridgeport, CT (October 24, 2025) – Bridgeport Hospital hosted a Men’s Health Symposium Saturday, which focused on prostate, colon and lung cancer awareness, with the goal of promoting early detection and prevention through education and community engagement.

The free event, held in partnership with St. Matthew Baptist Church, was open to the public and featured a multidisciplinary team of physicians presenting on symptoms, risk factors and screening options for the three most common cancers affecting men.

“Too many men delay screenings or ignore symptoms until it's too late,” said Steven Kardos, MD, a urologist with Northeast Medical Group and Bridgeport Hospital. “By offering clear, accessible information, we’re encouraging men to take a proactive approach to their health.”

Attendees heard from specialists in Urology, Colorectal Surgery, Oncology and Pulmonary Medicine. The symposium also included educational materials and free blood pressure screenings.

“This event was about creating space for open and honest conversations around men’s health,” said Rev. Dr. Aaron Best, pastor at St. Matthew Baptist Church. “We know that informed communities are healthier communities, and awareness is the first step.”

“We are committed to supporting our community’s well-being – not just through treatment, but through education and prevention,” said Anne Diamond, DBA, JD, president of Bridgeport Hospital. “Events like this align with our mission to improve health outcomes across the region.”
