Chief of Neurosurgery Kenneth Lipow, MD, of Fairfield, was named Bridgeport Hospital’s Physician of the Year during the hospital’s annual Physician Leadership Summit April 30 at Black Rock Yacht Club. Dr. Lipow was selected for the positive feedback he received in patient satisfaction surveys and patient letters.
“It takes an extra level of engagement to mention a physician in a letter,” Chief Medical Officer Michael Ivy, MD, told the audience at the summit. “Dr. Lipow received 50 letters in one year. That’s a rate of one a week – which is remarkable.”
“It’s overwhelming to me – more than I ever could expect,” Dr. Lipow said about receiving the award. “This recognition is heartfelt. It’s great working with this medical staff. We really have a great hospital.”
More than 50 other physicians at the hospital were recognized for achieving patient satisfaction survey scores in the 90th percentile or higher, and many reached the 99th percentile.
Dr. Lipow received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AEMC) in New York and completed his AEMC residency at New York’s Montefiore Medical Center and Jacobi Medical Center. In 1985, he joined the medical staff of Bridgeport Hospital, where he has helped spearhead innovative neurosurgical care for nearly 30 years. Most recently, he has been one of the regional pioneers in the use of the O-arm/Steath Station navigation system, which guides surgeons through complex neuro-spinal procedures with unprecedented safety and precision.
