Stratford Mayor John Harkins presents $2,500 to Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Fairfield, CT — Stratford Mayor John Harkins recently presented a gift of $2,500 from his annual charity golf tournament to Bridgeport Hospital's Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center for its services to women in need. The funds will be used for the center’s support groups, which are offered free to patients and their families. The center has been helping women in Stratford and other area communities fight breast cancer for more than a decade.

The mayor has attended the breast care center’s annual Rose of Hope Luncheon for several years. Mayor Harkins said he is moved when hearting cancer survivors speak about their experiences at the center. “Under the capable guidance of Dr. Twist and her team, the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center has substantially impacted the well-being of the greater Stratford community by placing life-saving healthcare options within reach of all,” he said.

Each year, Mayor Harkins hosts an annual charity golf tournament. Funds from this year’s tournament, the seventh, are being distributed to local charities, including the Breast Care Center.

Part of Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Health System, the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center, a member of the prestigious National Consortium of Breast Care Centers, has served more than 20,000 women and their families since it was established in 1999. One of only 200 sites accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the Center provides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital and Fairfield locations, including medical oncology, surgical and chemotherapy services, plastic surgery, mammography and radiation therapy, and genetic risk assessment as well as opportunities to participate in clinical trials.

The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center office at 111 Beach Road in Fairfield also provides comprehensive women’s wellness services, including nutrition counseling, massage and Reiki therapy, wig and prosthesis fitting, counseling, yoga, Pilates, naturopathic medicine, and other patient support activities. The center has a satellite office on Park Avenue in Trumbull.
