YNHHS places three in the class of 2023
NEW HAVEN, CT (July 7, 2023) – The American Academy of Nursing has announced the induction of 253 distinguished nurse leaders into the 2023 Class of Fellows. This year’s conference theme is “Celebrating 50 Years of Leadership, Policy and Partnership.”
Anna Cerra, DNP, RN, SVP, patient care services and chief nursing officer, Greenwich Hospital; Ena Williams, PhD, RN, SVP and chief nursing officer, Yale New Haven Hospital; and Linda Roney, EdD, RN-BC, clinical nurse, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Bridgeport Campus, have been named to the Class of 2023.
Induction into the Academy is a significant milestone in a nurse leader’s career in which their accomplishments are honored by their colleagues within and outside the profession. Fellows are selected based on their contributions and impact to advance the public’s health. The newest fellows, and largest class, represent 40 states, the District of Columbia and 13 countries. In welcoming these fellows, the Academy will be comprised of more than 3,000 leaders who are experts in policy, research, administration, practice, and academia that champion health and wellness, locally and globally. Through a competitive, rigorous application process, the Academy’s Fellow Selection Committee reviewed nearly 400 applications to select the 2023 fellows.
“As the American Academy of Nursing’s president, it gives me great pride to welcome these incredible leaders into our organization during our 50th anniversary year. Reflecting on the Academy’s history, we began with 36 Charter Fellows in 1973 who saw the need for an organization that would recognize and elevate the impact of nursing on health care,” said Kenneth R. White, PhD, RN. “The Academy continues to convene and celebrate nurses who make extraordinary contributions to improve health through the generation, synthesis and dissemination of nursing knowledge. This year’s group of inductees truly represents today’s thought leaders and the diversity of our profession’s policy leaders, practitioners, educators and innovators. Each Fellow of the Academy is changing the future of health and health care through their support to advance equity, promote inclusion, and lift up the next generation of nurses, advancing the Academy’s vision of healthy lives for all people.”
The Academy is a policy organization and an honorific society that recognizes nursing's most accomplished leaders in policy, research, practice, administration, and academia to advance equitable solutions to the nation’s most complex health care challenges. Academy fellows, from over 40 countries, hold a wide variety of influential roles in health care. Induction into the Fellowship represents more than recognition of one's accomplishments within the nursing profession. Fellows contribute their collective expertise to the Academy, engaging with health leaders nationally and globally to improve health and achieve health equity by impacting policy through nursing leadership, innovation and science.
The inductees will be recognized for their substantial, sustained, and outstanding impact on health and health care at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, October 5 - 7, 2023 in Washington, DC.
