Dave Morehead, RN, Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus Intensive Care Unit (ICU), won the DAISY Award after helping a patient who had been in the ICU for more than two weeks and was at the end of life. Morehead wasn’t assigned to the patient the night before he passed away but continued to check on him. Before he left for the night, Morehead asked if he could share a story with the family and reminded them that their parents’ love and the life they built together was the reason everyone was in the room. The patient’s daughter-in-law wrote in the award nomination, “Dave not only took care of my father-in-law’s physical needs, but his emotional ones as well. I’m certain his impact helped ease my father-in-law’s transition into Hospice and ultimately to his eternal rest.”
