West Tower 7 recently won a DAISY Award – the first time an entire unit has been recognized – for the staff’s care of a cancer patient. In the award nomination, a family member wrote, “From the get-go, the (patient’s) nurses were unbelievably kind, careful with her fragile skin and bones and so professional that my mom barely knew she was being cared for!” The nomination also noted how nurses went out of their way to make sure the whole family was comfortable, calling the family’s time at Bridgeport Hospital, “the gold standard of care that everyone wishes for.” The DAISY Award honors extraordinary nurses and nursing students who demonstrate compassion, leadership and excellence in their work.
