On the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Bridgeport Hospital employees volunteered to pack meals for families in the community.

A dozen Bridgeport Hospital employees made an impact in their community for the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. The 12 staff members from Emergency Services, Emergency Medical Service and Emergency Management volunteered for two hours at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, packing meals for local families.

“Volunteering on 9/11 Day is a meaningful way to come together as a community through acts of kindness and honor the lives lost,” said April Alfano, RN, director of Nursing, Emergency Services, Emergency Management, EMS and Stroke. “Packing meals for local families is a small gesture that carries a big message – that unity, compassion and service still define who we are.”

The team packed 816 bags of food that will feed 4,896 people. The event was held in partnership with CT Foodshare.
