Jennifer Marin, RN, West Tower 6, won the June Great Catch Award after going the extra mile for a patient undergoing a blood transfusion. Marin was in another room looking for equipment when she saw the patient getting the transfusion. Although it wasn’t her patient, she observed the patient, knowing transfusions can be high-risk. Noticing the patient appeared slightly lethargic and had an unusual skin redness, Marin worked with the patient’s primary nurse to initiate transfusion reaction protocol. Thanks to Marin’s vigilance and willingness to speak up, the patient received a timely intervention.
