Bridgeport Hospital’s Psychiatric Inpatient Care department recently received the ACT Differently Award for the care of a patient from the Anderson Center for Autism in New York.

The award recognizes an individual or organization embodying the purpose behind ThinkDIFFERENTLY, a Dutchess County, New York, initiative that aims to change how individuals, businesses and organizations interact with people of all abilities. Bridgeport Hospital was nominated by an Anderson Center nursing supervisor, who worked with the hospital when a Center student was hospitalized. The nomination read, “In every respect, Bridgeport Hospital exemplifies excellence in health care. It has been a privilege to work with such a dedicated and professional team.”

The nominator wrote that she experienced the highest level of professionalism from the initial contact with the person answering the phone to the attending physician and staff who addressed every question and concern.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Anderson Center for Autism,” said Peter Morgan, MD, chair of Psychiatry at Bridgeport Hospital and professor of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine. “This award reflects the tireless work of so many dedicated professionals who believe that every individual deserves access to compassionate care.”
