Bryan Kerner, DO, is an anesthesiologist and assistant professor of anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine. He provides anesthesia care for patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures and has special expertise in regional anesthesia, which can help control pain, reduce the need for opioids, and support smoother recovery after surgery.
Dr. Kerner holds leadership roles within the Yale New Haven Health System and is actively involved in improving the quality and safety of surgical care. He helped develop and expand regional anesthesia programs across multiple hospitals, focusing on safe, consistent pain management and a positive patient experience. He also participates in patient safety initiatives designed to reduce errors and ensure high standards of care.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Kerner is dedicated to education and communication. He teaches physicians, nurses, and anesthesia trainees, and serves as a mentor to medical students and residents interested in anesthesiology. He has also contributed to community education as a featured physician on Your Healthcare, a Connecticut Public Television program, where he explained anesthesia care and the surgical experience in an effort to reduce patient anxiety and improve understanding.
Dr. Kerner has a particular interest in caring for older adults and tailoring anesthesia plans to each patient’s individual needs. He has shared his expertise nationally on anesthesia safety and pain management and has written an invited educational article on regional anesthesia in older patients for a national professional society.
Dr. Kerner believes that clear communication, thoughtful planning, and attention to comfort are essential parts of safe anesthesia care. He works closely with patients, families, surgeons, and nursing teams to ensure each patient’s experience before, during, and after surgery is as safe and comfortable as possible.
