Mahsa A. Sohrab, MD, is an ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon who cares for both children and adults. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of functional and aesthetic disorders of the eyelids, eyebrows, tear ducts and eye socket.
“I offer a wide variety of treatments and procedures for a broad spectrum of conditions,” Dr. Sohrab says. This may include eyebrow lifts, Botox and cosmetic filler injections, and laser and chemical peel skin resurfacing in areas near the eye. She also performs such complex procedures as reconstruction after tumor removal and repair after fractures.
Dr. Sohrab developed a passion for surgery early in medical school. She liked the sense of structure in the operating room and challenge of using technical skills to perform delicate procedures.
She also enjoys interacting with patients. “I love being able to make a difference in their quality of life,” Dr. Sohrab says. Patients are often surprised about the way eye surgery can enhance their natural beauty, widen their field of view, and eliminate such problems as excessive tearing. While some surgeries are complex, she has also transformed patients’ lives with simple techniques such as elevating the eyelids or removing excess skin. In addition, Dr. Sohrab provides various surgical rehabilitation options for patients who have been struggling with the effects of thyroid-related eye disease.
An assistant professor of ophthalmology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Sohrab says it helps to have the ability to draw upon the expertise of a diverse team of specialists. “I reassure patients that we work together as a team to achieve the outcomes they desire,” she says.
