When you come to Bridgeport Hospital for your procedure, you may be asked to adhere to some new guidelines. These steps will help to ensure your safety during your stay. Learn more about what needs to be done leading up to your procedure.
Step 1: COVID-19 Testing
We are asking all patients to get tested for COVID-19 three days before their procedure. Testing at a Yale New Haven Health facility ensures an accurate and timely result. The test helps to ensure the safety of all patients and staff.
Step 2: Arriving For Your Procedure
When you arrive for your procedure, you may be asked to park at a designated parking location.
Step 3: Pre-Surgery Screening
Once you arrive at Bridgeport Hospital, check-in at the front desk and have your temperature taken. Even though you will have already gotten a COVID-19 test, it’s important for us to screen all patients for any signs or symptoms of the virus on the day of the procedure.
Step 4: Waiting
To eliminate public waiting areas, you will be directed to a protected waiting area. Patient family liaisons will then escort you to a preoperative area and stay with you until you meet your nurse. Afterwards, you will be taken to the surgical suite.
Step 5: Communication
To ensure the safety of all of our patients, we are not allowing visitors at this time. Family members can stay up to date on your procedure through family text messaging. You will be provided with more information prior to your arrival.
Step 6: Surgery Safety
During your procedure, you can expect the same level of care you have come to expect from Bridgeport Hospital. All exam, operating, and recovery rooms as well as instruments are thoroughly disinfected and sterilized. We follow the guidelines for hospitals set by the CDC and EPA, as well as guidelines set by our own infection prevention team.
Step 7: Post-op Care
After your procedure, you will be taken to a postoperative area to recover. You will not be recovering in an area with COVID-19 positive patients.
Step 8: Going Home
When you are ready to go home, your emergency contact will be notified. A member of our team will bring you to them, and go over your post-procedure care.
