It’s not every day that a caregiver is described as “an angel disguised as a nurse,” but one family thinks of the Surgical ICU’s Shawna Hall, RN, as just that. Hall received the DAISY Award, which honors extraordinary nurses who demonstrate compassion, leadership and excellence. In their nomination, the family wrote that Hall treated their mother with immeasurable respect and unprecedented kindness. Hall also showed compassion to the family when their mother was told the next step would be hospice care. “For the short time we were blessed by Shawna’s presence during her shift, she miraculously managed to change our lives and perspectives,” the family wrote.
