Five residents from the Bridgeport Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program brought national recognition to Connecticut in April, capturing first place at the American College of Physicians (ACP) Doctor’s Dilemma® National Competition and earning the prestigious Osler Cup.
Doctor’s Dilemma is a fast‑paced, quiz‑style medical knowledge competition often compared to Jeopardy! that draws the best and brightest internal medicine residents from around the world. Up to 60 teams, each representing an ACP state or international chapter, compete over three days at the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting.
To reach the national stage, the Bridgeport Hospital team first triumphed over a highly competitive field of internal medicine residency programs statewide, earning the honor of representing Connecticut. They then went on to defeat elite teams from across the globe at the ACP national meeting in San Francisco.
“This achievement speaks volumes about the dedication, teamwork and intellectual rigor of our residents,” said Kaltrina Sedaliu, MD, program director, Yale New Haven Health Bridgeport Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. “Winning at the national level requires far more than individual brilliance. It reflects discipline, preparation and mutual trust.”
The competition tested residents across a broad range of internal medicine topics, requiring rapid clinical reasoning, deep knowledge and composure under pressure.
“Competing at this level alongside some of the brightest minds in medicine was both humbling and energizing,” said resident Sarpong Boateng, MD, a member of the winning team.
By securing the Osler Cup, the Bridgeport Hospital team has earned a permanent place in ACP history, an achievement that underscores the strength of its educational mission and the exceptional caliber of its residents.
