The Palliative Care team at Bridgeport Hospital is dedicated to the care and comfort of seriously ill patients and their families. Palliative care focuses on relieving the pain, stress, physical and emotional symptoms caused by serious illness at any stage of the illness. Our goal is to provide patients and families with the best possible quality of life. Palliative care is not end-of-life care. It can be part of a treatment plan for patients of any age and at any time during a disease or illness.
Under the direction of Kristin Edwards, MD, palliative care services provides comprehensive interdisciplinary care to patients and their families. Partnering with your primary physician, we provide pain relief, compassionate treatment, help navigating the healthcare system, guidance with medical decision-making, coordination of care and emotional support for you and your family. The team also addresses psychosocial issues such as depression, anxiety, disruption of family life and financial concerns. Social work services and spiritual support for the patient and his/her family is also offered.
Working together, we provide compassionate care to those with serious illness to help maximize the quality of life according to their wishes. Our interdisciplinary care team includes board-certified physicians, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), social workers, therapists, chaplains and spiritual support.
Palliative care can help patients improve their quality of life. Our patients experience improved ability to carry on with daily life, improved ability to tolerate medical treatments, better understanding of their health condition and better understanding of available choices for medical care.
