Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus Mother’s Day Run/Walk draws over 540, raises more than $32,000 for patient care

Wednesday, May 17, 2023

MILFORD, CT (May 17, 2023) – The May 14 Mother’s Day 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital drew 542 runners and walkers and raised more than $32,000 to benefit patient care at the Milford Campus.

“Among the many roles a mother can play in the family is leading the healthcare decisions of their loved ones,” said Steve Jakab, president of the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation. “We are privileged that so many look to the care professionals at Bridgeport Hospital’s Milford Campus, which has been supporting mothers in their family’s healthcare journeys for over 100 years.”

Jakab thanked all the volunteers who helped at registration tables and along the routes. “We could not manage this event without their gifts of time and talent,” he said.

The 5K winner was Jacob Morrow Spitzer of New Haven in a time of 17 min., 42 sec. The top woman finisher was Carrie Bova of Milford, in 19 min., 46 sec. A number of trophies and medals were presented to the top three finishers in men’s and women’s age groups, from under 10 to over 70 years old.

Corporate sponsors of the event included Dillon’s Services of Shelton, Unitex Textile Rental Services, Oncology Hematology Care of Connecticut, Executive Cleaners, and Milford Vascular Institute. Additional support came from Milford Podiatry Associates, Connoisseur Media, Coca-Cola Beverages, Kind Snacks and Sodexo. Jakab also thanked Marty Schaivone and MS Running Productions for their exceptional leadership of this year’s event.

“Marty has been a huge part of this Mother’s Day tradition for more than three decades and we are grateful for his efforts to make the day safe and run as well as it does.”
